Dimore Studio
While the minimalist aesthetic resonates with me deeply, I also have passion for the sumptuous and eclectic. I’m not afraid of too much texture and color. Whether materials are soothing complements to one another or provocative and jarring, exuberance has a place in my heart.
Dimore Studio, in recent years has become a celebrity studio in Italy. The last three years I’ve attended Salone de Mobile, the annual international gathering for furnishings and design in Milan, I am always excited to visit the studio’s exhibitions (as are many others, which means waiting in long cues).
Founded by Emiliano Salci and Brit Moran, the pair are superb at creating atmosphere. Colliding historical design with bespoke creations, and wonderfully delicious doses of color, they create space that at once take you back in time -- and forward into the future. It’s an odd combination that creates a surreal, dreamy mood for their spaces, all the while, staying fresh and contemporary!
Recently, I went to see their gallery on Via Solferino, and as always, the takeaway is that they are great at making a story come to life. Their rooms are seductive, oozing with emotion. Ever watch In the Mood for Love by Wang Kar Wai? Every camera shot is sensual and leaves you wanting. Dimore’s rooms remind me of the movie. There is a blood red varnish pared with an aqua ceiling in this exhibit. I’m told they do not give away their pantone colors!
Hospitality environments are especially conducive to their creativity, giving them the freedom to really design an immersive experience. Check out some of their work. Of recent trend, a moody romantic style employing rich bejeweled tones has come on to the scene. I think that the two have much to do with this aesthetic.
Interesting factoid, Brit Moran hails from North Carolina, but has lived in Milan for the last 20 years! In 2017, Dimore Studio was also collaborating with Future Perfect on some original pieces ranging from lighting to fabrics.
