Working with Spotti
I first learned about Spotti when I was following Studiopepe founded by Arianna Lelli Mami and Chiara Di Pinto. I had taken a liking to the duo’s work after seeing their installations and editorials. So when I swung by the store with a friend doing some research, I instantly recognised a vignette of Studiopepe’s in the window front. Turns out Studiopepe has done seasonal installations for Spotti the last 7 years. And it certainly has given the store an edge because there’s constantly an exciting new composition to entice via social media or passersby. And from there, my interest in Spotti also began.
It also goes to show you that Milan is quite small and if you’re in the design field, you’ve probably grown up and collaborated with many in the industry. Ranging from furniture dealers, brands, product designers, architecture firms, stylists… people are interconnected – which means there are a lot of industry parties and events, and it’s good fun socializing with colleagues!
Perhaps not to some people’s surprise, Italian businesses are also multigenerational. As is the case for Spotti which was first established in Monza (a city north of Milan that has been a mecca for the furniture industry) by Senior Spotti. Since then, the Spotti brothers, Claudio & Mauro, have elevated the store to be at the cutting edge of contemporary Italian design. They’ve differentiated themselves as a sourcer of tasteful and “not stuffy” designs. And Emanuela, who has worked for Spotti since her first years out of design school, has been with the company for 27 years! True to their culture, the staff at Spotti are meticulous and detail-oriented. I consider them craftspeople more than just retailers, and I have certainly taken advantage of their expertise.
The interior designer’s job is to whittle down decision making for the client. But given the delicious assortment of options at my fingers tips, it can be daunting to choose even for us. That said, it has been a great collaborative experience delivering beautiful, quality products to my clients! Here are some quick photos of deliberations for the LA Project.
